Sports Physiotherapy (Pre-habilitation and Rehabilitation in sports)

Sports physiotherapy and rehabilitation is the prevention and management of injuries resulting from sport and exercise participation. It is a specialized line of rehabilitation, which is involved in the assessment, treatment and return to previous level of activity.

Current rehabilitation protocols emphasize on teamwork, rehabilitation planning with an understanding of the protocols and interventions required at various stages. This is best achieved with the multidisciplinary approach of physiotherapists, coach, trainers, orthopaedic surgeon, nutritionist and physician

Ligament and muscle injuries often result in a premature end to a career in sports. Pre-habilitation and Rehabilitation plays an important part to allow the athlete to return to his/her sport. Injury specific rehabilitation protocols are being practiced worldwide and this has to be lead by a trained sports physiotherapist.

The main goal of each session is to allow you to achieve your maximal peak performance. Each session will be individually assessed and progress is made according to your stage of recovery. Sessions includes pain relief using cryotherapy, electrical modalities, Kinesio-taping, Stretches and sports massage. Strengthening of weak muscles using specific skills and equipment’s will allow the sportsperson to return to their previous capacity. The treatment goal is to achieve the best functional level for the athlete, with minimal risk of new injuries.

PLYOMETRIC EXERCISES are also an important part of rehabilitation. These are powerful aerobic exercises used to increase your speed, endurance, and strength. Another important part of rehabilitation is PROPRIOCEPTIVE AND COORDINATION TRAINING, as these systems play an important role in the athlete’s dynamic stability and movement.

Commonly known injuries related to each different sports are ACL tear, Golfers Elbow, Tennis Elbow, Shoulder injuries, and ankle sprains.
